Retired – Design Sessions

Why are design sessions important?

Technology is just as much about creativity as it is logic and programming. Without creativity we wouldn’t have the inventions from fantastic minds such as Grace Hopper (first English-language Programming Language) or Hedy Lamarr (Actress and Inventor responsible for the frequency-hopping technology in WIFI and Bluetooth technologies). Science Fictions authors have inspired minds for generations, resulting in real-life inventions such as headphones (first imagined in Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451), Flip Phones (from the famous Star Trek TV show) and hoverboards (courtesy of Back to the Future II). There is a reason why creativity is a synonym of inventiveness and innovation in the dictionary!

Our design sessions

This is why we love to host design sessions where our students can let their imagination run wild and explore the future of technology. Our design sessions include a brief presentation to set the scene and guidelines for the session itself. Check out our sessions below:

Design a Smart Device

Difficulty: Beginner

Length: 1 – 2 Hours

These days smart devices are in almost all homes. Smart meters, Google Home and Amazon Echo are households names but have you heard of some more niche smart devices?

This session begins with a 10 minute presentation of smart devices: life saving bicycle helmets that automatically call help; toilets that warm the seat and play your favourite music; toasters that will imprint the day’s weather or your first meeting on your breakfast… and so many more! After you’ve inspired you audience, challenge your students to design their own smart device.

We are new, so we love to hear feedback! If you have any ideas, comments or concerns, please let us know. We look forward to hearing from you…
